Saraspathy & Pravin | Parent Testimonial

"The course has really opened my eyes – I know what I want. I know my future" - Pravin, 18 to his mother. "All the 17 years of school life – he has never shared that with me" - Saraspathy, Pravin's mother. Pravin attended the course on a Datin Teoh Phaik Lean Scholarship. “As a university student coming to this course, I actually was thinking a lot about career and employability skills. When we were in this course, we learnt why people are unemployed even though they have good degrees from good universities. For instance in communication, they taught us public speaking, spontaneous speaking, how to present ourselves in interviews and networking”. Brightwings participants are given a map and strategy to discover where they want to go, what they need to do, and how to get there. And our Future Fit Courses provide young people with entrepreneurial and employability skills to prepare them for their career. Our courses are hands-on, engaging learning experiences that give young people the tools to succeed in their current endeavours and in their career, whatever career path they choose. Participants work hard and experience an incredible amount of holistic growth in a short space of time. The Oxford Foundry Student Advisory Board (SAB)

The main purpose of the Oxford Foundry Student Advisory Board (SAB) is to co-create and support entrepreneurship- related programmes with the student community at the University of Oxford. The SAB shall: – provide the Oxford Foundry with feedback and guidance on its strategic direction in order to help enhance its impact on student futures and experiences. – ensure the Oxford Foundry creates impactful, student-led, and collaborative events that reflect the true needs of the University of Oxford’s diverse and vibrant student community. – promote collaboration between student clubs and societies, supported by a range of opportunities offered by the Oxford Foundry. The four main areas of the SAB annual programme are: 1. Board meetings – to shape Foundry programmes (e.g. AI Impact Weekends) and identify initiatives that encourage more students to start businesses 2. Skills development – Industry experts, entrepreneurs and coaches develop leadership and business skills (e.g. leadership days, networking 101 workshops, sponsorship 101 workshops, etc) 3. Access to networks – roundtable discussions with accomplished entrepreneurs and industry leaders 4. Funding - £20,000+ grant funding (OXFO Booster Grants) to help student societies deliver initiatives that provide entrepreneurial learning to students (in the 2018/19 academic year we approved grants to 17 societies that provided entrepreneurial learning to 3500 students) The Oxford Foundry reached out to Brightwings to ask them to design and deliver a tailored Leadership Day programme for the SAB. All of the Leadership Day training footage for this video has been provided by Brightwings.
